CULTURE DAYS

September 27-29th, 2019

The Last Mountain Lake Cultural CentreRegina Beach Public Library Branch, Southeast Regional Library and Regina Beach Parks & Rec are hosting a weekend of Free interactive events for everyone! Culture Days is a national initiative, now in its 10th year. You can find out more at this event https://www.facebook.com/events/663718474139380/ or by visiting https://culturedays.ca/events/map…

Included in this event are the following:

  • South Shore Historical Photo Project & Historical Photo Archive for the Regina Beach Library
Regina Beach has a rich history of being a place of rest & recreation for over 100 years. Much of this histoy has been captured in photographs; the train that would bring visitors our for the weekend, the dance hals of the 20’s & 30’s, the very tall old diving platforms, the first cottages & buildings, including teepees & tents.  These photos can be found in private homes, restaurants & businesses & at the Memorial Hall, but there is not one complete collection, nor does it exist in a public place.  Regina Beach Parks & Recreation and the Regina Beach Library aim to collect copies of these images to have them permanently displayed in the library.  We will be asking for people’s private historical photos as well. In addition, volunteers will be on hand to scan photos during the Culture Days weekend, as we anticipate people seeing the photos hanging in the gallery and wanting to add their own. Volunteers will be on-hand to scan your images from 11:00am-1:00pm on Saturday, September 28th.  You can also submit digital copies of photographs for printing to the library by emailing [email protected]  Please include important details of the photograph’s location, date and who is in them. A reception for the show will be held on Sunday, September 29th in the Elsie Scherle Gallery from 1:00-3:00pm. The photos will remain on display for the month of October, and South Shore School wil lbe invited to come visit the show.  This will then become a permanent display in the library.
