Garbage Collection Reminders
If you struggle to bring it to the garbage bin – imagine tossing those bags in the garbage truck for 4-6 hours in one day! Your Town’s public works employees are happy to provide this important service and we are committed to a high level of quality but we need your help too - in the interest of everyone’s health and safety, with the manual nature of the collection service, please keep the following in mind:
There’s a limit of 4 bags or equivalent volume of 67 litres, per garbage pick-up day. For example, this could be 4 large (66 cm x 82.5cm) black garbage bags or the equivalent in small plastic grocery bags.
There’s a bag weight limit of 35 lbs, but if you can, consider splitting it into other bags (remembering the volume limits above).
We’ve got a lot of nature! Remember to keep the Town clean and to ensure your garbage is collectable, put the garbage in thick-walled garbage bags that are tear resistant to avoid animals getting into them 🦨– and your garbage bin should be, “an enclosed box or covered, fly-proof, water-tight, galvanized steel or PVC material containers”.
Also, the combined weight of the garbage within the 67 litre volume is not to exceed 15.9 kilograms (35 pounds). Even though our crew members are tough 💪, with a population of approximately 1,145 and 600 of total residences in the Town of Regina Beach, repeatedly lifting full capacity bags at a majority of properties takes extra time.
Any bags that are put out with your weekly garbage that meet the above elements will be collected – please ensure that you’re not including prohibited items.
Ensure your garbage is out by 7:00am on your assigned garbage collection day – it may be picked up anytime during that working day even if there’s a commonly occurring time that you’ve noticed; depending on the other department projects or plans the collection route may not always stay the same.
** Remember, the landfill takes yard leaves, grass clippings and trimmed branches at no cost, it’s just your responsibility to get it there and to open any bags when it’s put it in the correct location. This option helps keep the amount of garbage filling the landfill down, extending the lifespan of your local landfill. **
One last thing – please don’t forget to keep your garbage bin in a serviceable and sanitary condition, including emptying any rainwater that accumulates in it, if your bin has become not-so water-tight.
Thank you for helping to make Regina Beach THE Place to be for All Seasons.
