Description: Reporting to the Forman - Public Works & Utilities, the position is responsible for assisting the daily maintenance and operation of the Town of Regina Beach municipal infrastructure including streets, alleys, storm water drainage system, solid waste, open spaces, parks, and facilities.
Typical Duties:
· Perform general labourer duties in the construction and/or maintenance of the various public works infrastructure.
· Operate vehicles including ½-ton, 1-ton, garbage truck.
· Operate tools and Powered Mobile Equipment including riding mowers, lawnmowers, chain saws, pole saws, whippers, compactors, etc. with appropriate training.
· Load/unload heavy material and equipment up to 50 lbs.
· Perform other maintenance activities as assigned including but not limited to summer road maintenance, tree trimming, mowing, erection of signs and solid waste collection.
Qualifications:
· This is an entry level position, therefore no prior experience with the position duties is required.
· A combination of education and/or experience demonstrating a proficiency in performing the described duties of the position is considered an asset. Staff will receive Job Specific training to ensure the staff can carry out their duties in a safe and skilled manor.
· Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license without restrictions.
· Knowledge of applicable Occupational Health and Safety laws and regulations, WHIMIS/SDS.
Abilities:
· Operate hand tools, power tools, sweepers, mowers, and trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
· Perform routine checks on vehicles and equipment as well as routine equipment and tool maintenance, as assigned.
· Perform heavy physical labour including the operation of equipment over sustained periods of time in all weather conditions.
· Performance of duties pertaining to water services including testing, turn-ons/turn-offs, water main flushing and water meter reading.
· Good judgment and work both independently as well as in a team environment under limited supervision.
· Strong interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors as well as effective communications to address the public, in a variety of and sometimes difficult situations, all in a courteous and cooperative manner.
· Acceptance of personal responsibility for one’s decisions.
· Accurately follows written and verbal instructions.
· Working on a full-time regular basis as well as overtime per the assigned schedule from the Forman - Public Works & Utilities.
· Able to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
· Must be a team player and have good problem-solving skills.
Hours & Conditions:
Position is generally 7:00 am to 3:30pm 5 days a week. Occasionally working non-standard hours and weekends. This is primarily outside work therefore must be able to work in all weather conditions.
This is a Term Position of 8 weeks funded through the Canada Jobs Project. Project availability is open July 01 through October 30, 2021
Eligible candidates shall be between the ages of be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
